Well I'm shocked

I didn't think he possessed the nerve to do it, but he did. Pastor Adam C. Briggs commented on my blog about him. And he commented on another blog where I made a remark about him.

Let's take a look at the post and comment here.

I decided my questions in reply were not enough, he's making some pretty striking statements.

I was hoping to have more time to make a longer comment, but for now I will say that I stand by everything I have said to you. You are gross and despicable. Be thankful that God has withheld His judgment this long.

Your educational and occupational standing pale in comparison to your wickedness and perversion and I pray that you don't get near my precious children who are pure and as yet undefiled by the worldly like you.

Gross and despicable? Wickedness and perversion? Them is fightin' words! Not really, but those are some pretty strong things to be saying about a person. I'd like to know just what it is about me that makes me gross. Or despicable. Or wicked. Or even perverse. I thought I was pretty nice and rather upstanding. Am I mistaken? Perhaps the good pastor can enlighten me on these things. Especially the wickedness and perversion part. I think my educational background is pretty impressive. Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering, completed in 1998 and Bachelor of Secondary Education, Mathematics Emphasis, still in progress. And I took courses at Cambridge University during one summer. I think that's pretty impressive, not as impressive as having a PhD, but still better than average. I've been listed twice in the National Deans list on my current degree and graduated with honors on my previous. I also put myself through school. I'm not saying all this to pat myself on the back, but rather to find what level of perversion and wickedness have I committed that makes it pale in comparison. I want answers!

The "Be thankful that God has withheld His judgment" line is almost comical. While I do not believe that any god exists due to a lack of proof, let's for the sake of argument say that this one did exist. Would an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient creator of all things have any concern about me? If he did, I'd say that he needs to get his priorities straight. Would it not be better to pass his judgement on rapists, murders, abortion doctors, child molesters and the like? Oh wait. He's not doing that either, is he? I could be wrong here, but a guy that works at a hotel, substitute teaches on his days off, goes to college when he can afford it and dances on stage in a dress doesn't really sound like much of a criminal. Seems rather petty in comparison to a murderer, don't you think? Aside from that, wouldn't passing his judgement interfere with my free will?

I think I'm starting to see a reason for me not to get near his children. They might think he's wrong and a bit of an idiot. Not to mention insecure and a jerk on top of that. Good chance of them losing respect for him.

Also, I stand by burning the koran. The moslems are a wicked and murderous people who are infiltrating our country at an alarming rate. I hope that the koran will one day be censored from our country.

Adam, do you realise that the same First Amendment right that allows you to preach the gospel also allows them to have their Qurans and preach from them? Christians also have a history of being murderous and wicked. Adolf Hitler was a Christian. I wouldn't want the Bible or any other religious text censored from this country. Such an idea is like spitting in the face of those that founded this country. And you have the nerve to call me wicked and despicable. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Normally I wouldn't waste my time with or give attention to this righteous troll. Normally I'd consider myself above attacking someone that is so witless and cowardly. But sometimes you just have to put someone in their place and this someone has been a thorn in my side for some time. It's time I get this off my chest like I've been meaning to. By the way, I'm hoping this gets back to Adam. I want it to. The invite is open from him to come here, on my turf and show me I'm in any way wrong or make some attempt at defending himself. I seriously doubt he will.

I'm going to pose a similar question to what he posed a while back when he took a few of the things I said in my online profiles out of context. He asked if I should be teaching children. I now ask if Pastor Adam is the kind of person you want leading you in prayer.

In fact, let's start with that. Why is it that he found it important to leave out my educational background (right there in the same profile), yet bold "drag queen?" Is being an artist/entertainer a bad thing when one is also a teacher? When I was in school, I had a teacher that was a drummer in a band, did that somehow make him unfit to teach as well? I'd like an answer to that. I think Adam was making an attempt to discredit me in some way, which makes leaving out facts that go against your point OK.

Adam likes to totally dehumanize and demonize people that may not agree with him as evidenced in his own blog. Such as this post accusing someone he quite obviously knows little about of being a eugenicist. Watch what you say on Twitter folks, there's no telling what he may accuse you of. The response to his post from the author of that Tweet was epic pwnage. Do you really want someone that makes these kind of accusations leading you to Jesus?

There's also this older post where he says things about a grocery store clerk that I can only guess he didn't have the balls to say to their face. He's pretty insistent that they are insistent on insulting him. Maybe it was too much for his narrow mind to ask "why all the questions?" If the conversation went verbatim as he typed it, I would have to say the clerk was either being nosey or maybe really did want a big family. I've been know to ask similar questions because large families are not very common. The national average is what? 2.5? What I also don't get is if he was offended, why didn't he say something to the store manager? Should someone that cowardly condemns another person for asking what may very well be innocent questions be on the pulpit?

Adam has also made some comments on a mock site for his favourite homophobic cookie shop. Not quite sure what he said, but it was too naughty for them to approve. Wow, a pastor that says offensive things on the internets and/or uses bad words? This guy is really digging a hole for himself.

National Coming Out Day and random ramblings.

So it's National Coming Out Day, Columbus Day, and Canadian Thanksgiving. This of course leads me to understand that Columbus was a gay Canadian. If he wasn't such a gay Canadian, he would not have told the pope to fuck off when the pope said the world was flat. As we all know churchy types are always right and gays are gay because they hate god, so they say the church is wrong. Or something like that.

They say the damnedest things, don't they? But let's take a look at this idea, shall we?

For starters, I'm an atheist. I do not believe that any god exists. I have yet to see proof of such. Because I don't believe that God exists, I don't believe in right and wrong. Murder, rape, theft, and eating babies are just fine by me. It's OK in the animal kingdom, so it's OK for people too. Right?

Of course not.

The reality is that I actually do have a concept of right and wrong. Fundies would say that I do because God gave me one. Wrote it on my heart or some nonsense. And because I have a sense of right and wrong, I know that God exists. Sounds a bit like circular reasoning to me. I'm not buying it. If you bought it, I suggest you take it back. According to some of the things I read in the Bible, this God makes folks like Hitler and Stalin look like amateurs. Why anyone would agree that they are made in his image is beyond me. I'll get to those things in the Bible later. Let's talk about where right and wrong really comes from.

I'm going to focus on the big wrongs, things that are usually touted as absolutely wrong. Murder, rape, theft, and deceit. Seems like every time I get in an argument about morality with a fundie the question of one of those always comes up.

"Is Murder wrong?"
"ummmm, yeah!"
"Absolutely wrong?"
"I think most people will agree that murder is wrong."
"So you do believe in absolutes!"

Yeah and it just goes from there. So why is murder wrong? Animals kill members of their own species and humans are animals, right? Yes, humans are animals, but we are an animal that understands that murder is not conductive to the survival of our species. It doesn't really fit in to how humans organise themselves into societies. Same goes for those other wrongs - rape, theft, and deceit. Throughout thousands of years of human evolution, these concepts have become part of our nature. We need to be told murder is wrong about as much as we need to be told to hold our breath when our heads are underwater.

There's a bit more though. Weird thing about humans, we can feel what it's like, to an extent, to be another human. We can project our feelings on to another of our kind. We can understand the feelings of another of our kind. Those things being said, if I, as a human, understand that something is harmful to me, then I understand that it is harmful to another of my kind. I wouldn't want anything harmful done to me, therefore I shouldn't do harmful things to others of my kind. Harmful things tend not to be good for survival. If an animal understands anything, it understands what it needs for it and it's species to survive. Our needs as humans are a little different from what other animals need so we tend not to do exactly as the animals do. This is why we don't eat our babies. This is why males of our kind do not regularly gang rape females of our kind.

It is nature, our nature as human beings, that dictates right and wrong, not the nature of how other animals behave. God does not make right and wrong. We do.

And if you are still looking to God for your moral absolutes, maybe you can learn a thing to a few from this video -



So what say you? Did you really need the Bible to know that murder is bad, or did it just make sense without you being told anything about it?

I guess he does have a point.

And this is why I love TheologyOnline, only there can I find people that think this is a completely logical argument.

He wanted to know what legalism meant. Perhaps he fears that spending time on sites like wikipedia might enlighten him. He could have done a fucking google search too. Or at least rephrased his question a little differently. Like maybe said "What does legalism mean to you?" Is that really so hard?

This is how a Christian thinks a leader should be chosen. Not just any leader mind you, a king. And at that a single monarch, no judiciary or legislature. Just pluck someone at random and give him all the power. You know, because the "Lord" really chose him because it was at random.

Does this make sense to anyone? It sounds like something that would take epic levels of lunacy and stupidity to think it's a great idea. Random chance isn't how you make a decision as important as who should rule and represent your country.

So happy I was smart enough to realize the Bible is poorly written fiction used to control masses to stupid to know better. Christianity is a cancer on human existence that needs to be cut away before it does more damage.

Some people are just fucking despicable

I'm not sure how else to describe it. I feel like I should have done something. But my options were limitted and I doubt my saying something would have done anything. If I had a cell phone, I would not have hesitated to call the police. I didn't really have time to run to a pay phone.

Here's what happened. While I was waiting for the bus, a woman and her son came to the stop and sat down. Judging by their bags it looked like they were shopping at the local K-mart and Wal-Mart. Really no big deal until the boy runs off and comes back with a board game in it's box. I wasn't paying that close attention. Kathy was at the stop with me and we were talking about stuff, mostly Warhammer 40K stuff. We started paying closer attention and saw that they went from the bus stop to the drop containers for the local Goodwill and Salvation Army that were nearby and proceeded to loot them. I was a bit shocked. I could see a kid that didn't know any better doing this, but an adult? A parent? Really What they fuck!?!?!?!?!?

And after they were don't looting one, they just when on to the next, their bags from the stores getting more full. They even grabbed a TV. They loaded it and the rest of the loot in a shopping cart and took off. At that point they were across the street and I could see the bus coming.

Just annoyed me so much. How low do you have to be to steal from a charity? What is her kid learning from this? Even if they were poor themselves, that's no excuse. Those drop boxes are not there for people to loot. I really wish I could have called the cops.

Dullards

That's the term I'm going to start using to describe stupid, hateful, bigoted people from here on out. The idea came to me when I was watching To Wong Foo. Dullard was the name of the rather stupid and bigoted sheriff they encountered. He got pwned pretty easily by the main characters too. BTW, if you have not seen To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar, you should.
