They have you do research.
Not adventurous at all. Easy though. Talk to agent. Pick tech. Move on. That's really it. You earn research points that you can turn in for datacores. Datacores are used in making Tech 2 blueprints. Like everything else, they get bought/sold on the market. Cool. more money making. Oh yeah, you can only research one tech at a time unless you train Research Project Management. Then you can research one more per level. Great, another skill book to buy, another skill to train.
So no missions, mining, trading, killing or moving stuff. Just something that runs in the background while you do other stuff.
