I'm even more annoyed

My boss just called.

She slept through her alarm.

Yeah she's going to be late.

And to think I was going to bitch at her about my co-workers coming in late everyday.

So I get this call at 7:00 am

It's my co-worker. Calling off because she's sick.

I'm finding this rather annoying. Calling in sick when you are supposed to be at work is bullshit. Seriously. Total fucking bullshit. There had to have been some point before where she knew she was not going to be in and could have called in sooner. Total fucking bull shit. Right before she called in she called the co-worker that was supposed to be in at 8:00am. She was coming to work from her other job. Which is why she was scheduled to be in a 8 in the first place.

Yeah, so because someone didn't have the sense to call earlier, 2 people, at least, were terribly inconvenienced. I didn't leave work until 7:40 causing me to take a later bus and delayed my getting home by an hour. Not cool.

More annoying is that my having to stay late is almost a daily occurrence. As much as I love the overtime, I'm sick of having to stay late. Seems like nearly every job I have ever held, except for teaching, there has been at least a few people that come in late on a daily basis and at least one that regularly calls off. Seldom have I seen a boss do anything about it. I don't get it. Save for missing some of pay, what incentive does anyone have to be on time if no one does anything about it? And when did this start? I thought most employers took some sort of disciplinary action when it came to being late for work. Well, I used to think that.

Hours being cut at the hotel

It's slow so they are cutting one auditor to 4 days each week until business picks back up. Next week is my week. I'm rather annoyed by this. I have a rent to pay. I'm scraping to get by as it is. This is bullshit. I understand things are slow, but when it was busy they were making money hand over fist. It evens out. Not only that, do they really need to cut our hours? The day shift is as unreliable as it gets. Always late and calling off. Doesn't that keep payroll down?.

Maybe I need to find a different primary job.

It's after 7:00am

And none of my staff is here.

This happens all the time, but it's making things hard on me this morning. One of the auditors is on vacation. I'm working by my lonesome. I have been having bursts of guests lining up in front of me, phone calls coming in and workers in other departments (that show up on time) waiting for me to sign out keys to them. All at the same time. I have a free moment right now, but I know I will get busy again, it comes in bursts.

And I just had one.

And my manager just got here at 7:15.

It's 7:20 and no one else is here. No desk clerk, no PBX, no Bellman.

No, wait, the bellman just got here.

So the question I'm asking myself right now...

Will anyone on the day shift be on time today?

This is getting quite old. The 7ish crew we call them. Scheduled to come in at 7am, almost never come in on time. And when they do show, most of them are never ready to work. They have to get dressed (I have co-workers that come in not in uniform), or put on makeup, or go to the Starbuck's (one in the hotel) or all the above and maybe a few other things. At any rate, I'm stuck at this front desk later than I should be.

Its like that at most of the jobs I have worked at over the years. Not many people care enough to show up on time. If they show up at all. I have to say its even made me quit a few jobs because the management did nothing about it.

And here it is after 7 and no one's here.
